THE COFFEE CHAT
THE COFFEE
Common Ground Coffee
Chat was founded in December
2024, and has since become a space for students
to engage in open, respectful dialogue across
lines of difference. Each conversation brings
together individuals with opposing perspectives
to share experiences, challenge assumptions,
and discover shared values. By fostering empathy
and curiosity, Common Ground Coffee Chat
works to normalize disagreement and transform
it into an opportunity for learning, growth, and
connection. We invite high schoolers, college
students, advocates, and various student leaders
from across the nation to share their unique
perspectives and lived
experiences.

My name is Sarah Shin
and I am an upcoming
senior at Bergen County
Technical High School.
It is truly an honor to host
a platform that highlights
raw, honest conversations
between students with
differing perspectives.

Through Common Ground, I not only connect
students so they can better understand each other,
but I've also gained new insights and ideas that
have expanded my own thinking. My goal is to
normalize disagreement: shifting what feels
"uncomfortable" into opportunities for growth
and understanding. Through these videos,
I hope to show that finding Common
Ground is always possible.
